The Gamingtec team unites people from all over the world who work in our offices in London and Kyiv. Working in a multicultural environment is a little complicated but nevertheless very interesting and exciting. We have twice as many holidays and celebrate diversity while learning to be tolerant and attentive to each other’s needs.
Think twice before publishing any announcement in a company chat in Slack. This is the golden rule of our Administrative department. What is usual for the Kyiv team may seem strange for a London one. Ukrainian corporate communication is more direct and informal than British business correspondence.
According to the company rules, all Gamingtec corporate communication is in English. However, the way of communicating with each other differs significantly: Ukrainians write long letters and respond more slowly than their colleagues from the London office, whereas British letters are short and more structured and contain more etiquette issues.
Ukrainians are used to celebrating birthdays and other holidays in the office after the working hours with various treats, which is a valuable part of the team-building process. British people prefer to go to a pub or even prefer to congratulate a birthday person online only.
Among the most popular British feedback about the time foreigners spend in Kyiv at many company meetings and the corporate summer retreat is excitement due to the Ukrainian hospitality and annoyance with the customer service. Most of them find Ukraine an attractive tourist destination and try to visit the Kyiv office at the earliest opportunity.
Working in a multicultural team is a great benefit because our brainstorming is always productive, as people with different mindsets offer unexpected ideas. We have started to be flexible and tolerant to understand each other. We simplify difficult requests and explain important things in detail.
The company cooperates with partners around the world and, in most cases, we have native speakers who can manage the processes. We are getting used to responding quickly and taking time zones into consideration. We are expanding our network and we welcome experienced specialists from different countries.
